The Shih Tzu Is the Favorite Dog Breed in the Philippines, According to Study
When the rest of the world is overwhelmingly in love with German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers, Filipinos have fallen in love with one particular breed of dog: the Shih Tzu.
In a study conducted by HouseholdQuotes, it was revealed the most popular dog breed in the world is the Rottweiler, which topped the survey in 34 countries, the highest number for any breed. The second most popular breed is the Australian Shepherd.
The study surveyed 150 countries but only 27 dog breeds emerged as favorites around the world.
In Asia Pacific, two breeds dominated: the German Shepherd and the Golden Retriever. However, the Shih Tzu became a standout as the favorite breed of Filipinos. The Philippines is the only country in the world where the Shih Tzu is popular.
“The German shepherd and the Golden Retriever tussle playfully for the rest of the region. A special mention goes to the Shih Tzu, who makes his only appearance in the Philippines. This homely little fellow is originally from Tibet, and developed as a cross between the Lhasa Apso and other Chinese imperial breeds,” reads the report.
