Walis Tambo for P1,400 and Other Pricey Ordinary Items Online
Last week, we found a bilao that sells for P15,000 on Pottery Barn. Today, while shopping for a walis tambo online, we came across one selling for P1,400. It piqued our curiosity, so we searched for other expensive ordinary items for Filipino homes being sold online.

Walis Tambo
In the Philippines, a walis tambo (dust broom) is usually priced at P150 to P300 at the wet market, depending on the quality. This one on Amazon sells for P1,400, and is branded “Baguio.”
“We purchased this broom as a reminder for my wife of her life in the Philippines. It is mounted on the wall as a very pretty conversation piece,” reads one review.
Walis Tingting
"This natural, biodegradable, handmade broom is made from the stem of coconut leaves," reads the product description. "Its uneven bristles are perfect for hard-to-reach areas and provides a clean sweep."
Giant Wooden Spoon and Fork
This one is described as a “Vintage Philipino carved wooden giant spoon and fork.” The imperfections on this piece lend it more character, which makes it a perfect accent piece.
Coconut Husk
In the Philippines, you can get discarded coconut husks at the wet market for free. On Etsy, you can get it for P1,500. It is described as a “coconut shell for orchids.”
Bunot
A bunot or coconut husk is used for polishing floors in the Philippines. It was a proud moment for kids in the ’80s and ’90s when they were able to make the floors gleam like mirrors using this piece of coconut their mothers bought in the market for P5. Now, it retails for P150 on Amazon but is marketed as a feeding tray for your pet reptile.
Pamaypay
This “vintage from the 1980s” costs P1,250. You could get one of these for under P50 at the market. Its description reads: “Very Boho! This vintage wicker fan is perfect for Boho or Earthy Decor, and it is completely functional as a handheld fan.”
Fifty-Peso Banknote
Apparently, that crumpled P50 in your wallet is now a vintage “collectible banknote” worth P280, at least according to one seller on Etsy. Someone actually bought the banknote and left a positive review: “Such a beautiful note. So happy with my purchase. The seller is great, very quick dispatch. Really happy and will use again.”
