It was symbolic, to say the least. Ahead of the centennial of his birth, Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) renames Bridgetowne Avenue as John Gokongwei Jr. Boulevard in honor of the founder of the Gokongwei Group, whose values continue to guide the company today.
Affectionately known as "Mr. John," the business tycoon and philanthropist built JG Summit Holdings, one of the country’s largest conglomerates that spans food, aviation, real estate, petrochemicals, banking, power, and telecommunications.
“This moment serves as a meaningful bridge between our founder’s centenary and Robinsons Land’s 46th anniversary milestone of Proven Stability,” says Maria Socorro Isabelle "Mybelle" V. Aragon-GoBio, president and CEO of RLC. “By naming the boulevard after him, we honor the timeless principles that Mr. John lived by: his discipline, his prudence, and his bold, unstoppable vision. These are the very values that built our foundation and continue to guide everything we do today.”
The location gives the homage a profound meaning. John Gokongwei Jr. Boulevard stretches approximately one kilometer through Bridgetowne Destination Estate, one of RLC’s most significant mixed-use developments, spanning portions of Quezon City and Pasig.

A Legacy Built Around People
Mr. John was a young boy of 13 when his father died. As the eldest child, he began helping support the family and learned at an early age to meet hardship with resourcefulness.
Those experiences influenced the way he later approached business. He studied what customers needed, managed resources carefully, and pursued innovative ideas that could create lasting value. From those beginnings, he established enterprises that brought products, services, jobs, and new possibilities to millions of Filipinos.
Through Robinsons Land, that people-first outlook took physical form. Robinsons Galleria was an early expression of the company’s mixed-use approach, bringing commercial, office, residential, and hospitality spaces together in one complex. The idea was not simply to put different buildings side by side, but to create a destination shaped around the varied needs of everyday life.
That approach later guided RLC’s expansion into new communities and emerging areas, supported by disciplined development, careful stewardship, and a long-term view.

A Living Tribute at the Heart of Bridgetowne
Bridgetowne brings the mixed-use concept first pursued at Robinsons Galleria to a grander scale. The estate combines workplaces, homes, retail, hospitality, leisure facilities, and public spaces within one destination.
Running through its center, John Gokongwei Jr. Boulevard plays an essential role in making that vision work. Along the road is a 200-meter bridge that provides a direct route between the Quezon City and Pasig City sides of Bridgetowne.
Together, these routes improve mobility for residents, employees, businesses, and visitors while strengthening the estate’s links to surrounding communities.
JG Summit Holdings president and CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei shares in a special message: “Many people know my dad as a bold entrepreneur, a visionary who built businesses from the ground up, and a man of relentless drive. But to us, his family, and to those who worked closely alongside him, he was first and foremost a teacher. My father lived his life by a set of very simple, non-negotiable principles: relentless hard work, absolute integrity, prudence in managing what we are blessed with, and an unwavering belief in the potential of the Filipino. He didn't just teach us these values in words; he demonstrated them every single day in the way he lived, the way he treated people, and the way he made decisions. He showed us that true vision isn't just about dreaming big—it's about having the grit and discipline to turn those dreams into reality for the service of others.

“As we unveil John Gokongwei, Jr. Boulevard today here in Bridgetowne, our family is deeply humbled. This avenue is more than a physical tribute or a name on a sign. It is a living reminder of the path my father paved for all of us. It represents the foundation upon which the entire Gokongwei Group stands, and the benchmark of integrity and purpose that continues to guide our journey forward.”
By dedicating the boulevard in his honor, the company aims to keep Mr. John’s legacy a living, daily presence in the community.
