You may have noticed that in the past few days your Bank of Philippine Islands app transfers have been wonky and even virtually unusable, making paying your bills and topping up your e-wallets quite the chore. Well, you weren't alone since BPI now confirmed a system-wide disruption within their online systems.
In a statement on June 16 (Tuesday), BPI Holdings said only their mobile app and online banking channels went offline because of the disturbance in network connectivity, among other issues.
The local lender clarified that despite this, branch operations, ATMs, and in-store card purchases were fully functional throughout the outage. Payroll credits were also reportedly processed on schedule during the disruption, with employees with BPI accounts getting their salaries on time even with digital downtime.
As of press time, you can access the BPI mobile app and view your account and transaction history, but expect slower response times in actual transfers and payments due to higher transaction volumes.
The bank added that all client accounts, balances, and personal information are accurate and secure even during the disruption.
"Our teams continue to closely monitor system performance and are working to fully normalize services as soon as conditions allow. We appreciate our clients’ understanding as we complete the stabilization process," according to BPI.
