Having a business, handling your own finances, and just being an adult are tough tasks made even more daunting by the prospect of lining up for hours at a cramped government office. We’re sure government workers are doing the best they can, but there’s no hiding the stress on everyone’s faces at places like BIR and DTI.

So, to save you time, money, and stress, here is a list of government agencies that offer services online.

1| PhilHealth

You can register to PhilHealth, the government-mandated national healthcare insurance system, online. The service’s PhilHealth Electronic Registration System allows you to complete your registration for a PhilHealth number without having to visit a PhilHealth branch. Once registered, you can check your benefits and find government-accredited healthcare institutions on the website.

2| Pag-IBIG

Similar to PhilHealth, you can register for Pag-IBIG membership completely online. After applying for and receiving a Pag-IBIG number, you can then apply for housing loans, pay for loans, submit your remittance schedule, and verify house loan payments—all online.

3| DTI business name search

As mentioned in a previous episode of My Two Cents, it’s imperative that the business name you plan to register hasn’t already been taken. The Department of Trade and Industry’s Business Name Registration System is the perfect tool to find registered names that you can’t use in the country.

4| Overseas Employment Certification

The Overseas Employment Certification (OEC) is the most important document for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) to acquire. It serves as an ID, certificate, and permit all in one, and you can start the process of getting one online. It’s called the Balik-Manggawa Online Processing System, which is created to serve departing and returning OFWs.

5| eComplaint

We’re just leaving this here in case you might need it—which is likely. Basically, it’s a system designed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue that aims to improve its quality of service. So, if ever you feel like its service can be improved, then by all means, fill out this eComplaint form.

6| Birth certificate

If you’re one of the many who have lost their birth certificate, you can easily request a new one to be delivered to you by the Philippine Statistics Authority. The online service also allows you to request for marriage, no marriage, and death certificates. For a fee, PSA Serbilis will send the certificate to your house, either in the Philippines or abroad. You simply apply, pay, and wait for delivery. It’s one of the most convenient online government services out there.

Government employees are covered by the Government Service Insurance System, which has moved many of its services online. Members can check the status of their loans, claims, and insurance benefits using the website. All of the services can be viewed on the eGSIS Mo Portal.

8| SSS

All non-government employees enrolled in the Social Security System can sign up at the SSS Member Portal, which allows SSS members to track their contributions and check their membership information. Non-SSS members can also apply for an SSS online.

9| Driver’s license

The Land and Transportation Office is one of the most packed offices in the country. One way to make the process move a little faster is by scheduling an LTO appointment ahead of time via the LTO website. LTO also offers online services such as checking on the status of your license plate request, vehicle assessment, and online payments.

10| NBI clearance

Surprisingly, getting NBI Clearance is one of the easier government documents to attain. And one reason for that is the online application system, which has improved the service immensely. Users can register for NBI Clearance online and schedule a visit to the nearest NBI branch via the website. If you want to renew your clearance, you only have to register online, pay at the nearest 7-11, and wait for it to be delivered to your house. Just pray you don’t have a hit.

Let’s hope more agencies adopt online government services to improve their efficiency and save everyone’s time.
