The Internet Jokes That Converge Wants #AcademicBreakNow After Internet Outage Annoys Customers

If you’re reading this using data, you’re probably one of the many customers affected—and annoyed—by Converge’s poor connection.
It’s been almost three hours since Converge ICT went down at 1:10 p.m. today and still not everyone has been reconnected to the Internet. According to Converge, the Internet has a technical team working on the “data center issues” and “power issue,” both of which have affected millions of users nationwide.
According to Downdetector, a global service that “detects when technology fails,” the map below is what the real-time Internet outage looks like in the Philippines. Most of Converge’s customers in South Luzon are the most affected, and based on their graph, the outage peaked midday as people were in the middle of online classes and work-from-home.

Converge has apologized for the inconvenience, and paying customers can do nothing but wait—and make memes. After countless typhoons, earthquakes, and an ongoing pandemic, netizens joked that Converge’s power outage is a sign supporting #AcademicBreakNow, an online campaign by students to suspend classes.
Of course, Converge hasn’t said anything on the matter, but it’s a pretty smart way to direct attention to social causes in the best way possible: memes.
Converge internet might be down, but memes are forever.
