Many people are still afraid of going out and you can’t blame them. Until we get a vaccine, there’s always a risk of getting COVID-19 when we interact with strangers in public spaces. This also explains the rise of on-demand delivery and courier services during the pandemic.
This is precisely the reason for the latest partnership between telecom giant Globe, through its wholly owned corporate incubator 917Ventures, Inc., and PureGold, one of the largest chains of supermarkets in the country. PureGo is an ecommerce platform that allows customers to do their grocery shopping online and have the items delivered to their homes on the same day.
The partnership benefits from PureGold’s large inventory of grocery items—from fresh meats and vegetables, kitchen essentials, pantry favorites, and cooking ingredients, to personal care items, cleaning supplies and even pet food provided by hundreds of reputable brands.
Since the items are all sourced directly from PureGold, prices are the same as those in its brick-and-mortar branches, making PureGo one of the most affordable options around.
PureGo also offers same-day grocery delivery, multiple payment options, order tracking, wish list for the next grocery order, and discounts and promos during seasonal sales.
For now, PureGo delivers in Quezon City, Caloocan, Marikina, Manila, Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, Makati, and Bonifacio Global City, but plans are underway to add more areas. It is also integrated with GCash via its mini-app program, allowing users to pay for purchases using GCash.
"Puregold has been a part of Filipino homes for the past 22 years,” said company president Ferdinand Vincent Co. “As a commitment in serving our customers, we continue to elevate the grocery experience by going digital. With PureGo, grocery shopping is just a click away."
“With the pandemic, many Filipinos were forced to do their shopping online especially for groceries,” said Vince Yamat, 917Ventures’ marketing director. “Given this, we decided to leverage on the long-standing partnership Globe has with PureGold. We believe that the market’s affinity for them as well as their reach combined with our resources and expertise will make PureGo an indispensable part of people’s lives.”
For now, customers can order groceries by going to the website, but there are plans for PureGo to have its own mobile app and loyalty program, and to eventually include items from S&R, the premium membership shopping also owned by PureGold.
PureGo is the latest player in the grocery delivery platform space, which includes MetroMart, PushKart, GoRobinsons, Foodpanda, WalterMart Delivery, Mr. Speedy, Pick-a-Roo, and several others.
Formerly known as Globe Capital Ventures Holdings, Inc. (GCVH), 917Ventures is a corporate incubator tasked to "generate, test, and develop new business ideas that have the potential to grow and scale fast." Mynt and GCash are just two examples of companies under 917Ventures.
Owned by Lucio and Susan Co, who were listed as two of the richest individuals in the country by Forbes, Puregold operates a total of 229 hypermarkets, 102 supermarkets, 28 extras, 19 minimarts, 18 S&R warehouse clubs, and 38 S&R Quick Service Restaurants, for a total of 434 stores all over the country as of the end of 2019.
