As the saying goes, the best gifts are free. Just in time for the holidays, Filipino businesswoman and co-founder of Happy Skin Rissa Mananquil-Trillo will be giving away one free executive education online business course to a lucky entrepreneur during this year’s virtual Manila International Book Festival (MIBF).

There are still a few days left before MIBF ends on November 30, so you still have a chance to bag that free business course.

Every person who purchases one copy of Rissa’s book, Read My Lips: What It Takes to Build a World-Class Homegrown Brand, from the MIBF website will get a raffle coupon for the competition. Only one lucky person will be chosen for the free course.

Read My Lips follows Mananquil-Trillo’s entrepreneurial journey setting up what is now one of the most known home-grown beauty brands in the country, Happy Skin. It also features an entire chapter titled “MBA In a Minute” that includes the wisest quotes and lessons she’s learned from the top business leaders in the country, ranging from Lance Gokongwei of JG Summit to Tessie Sy-Coson of SM Investments.

"It wouldn’t be complete without featuring the people in business I genuinely looked up to so I devoted an entire chapter for this," shared Mananquil-Trillo.

From the many interviews she conducted with the country's top tycoons, the words of Lance Gokongwei stood out for her.

"I loved how Lance Gokongwei spoke about the importance of family and making sure values taught by his own father, Big John, are passed on to the next generation. I’m sure amidst everything happening now in the world and what we’ve been through, the importance of family resonates more than ever at this time," said the entrepreneur.

'It’s hard to feel successful in business if you are not successful at home.'

"It’s hard to feel successful in business if you are not successful at home," she added. "Our families are the ones we want to be with during moments of triumph but more so during hard times like now. Family will always keep any business leader grounded and passing on values to children also helps secure the next generation of business leaders. The next generation will always be the best legacy and I can imagine Big John is very proud."

The author and entrepreneur is also a proud Executive MBA graduate of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), which will be holding the non-degree course she’s raffling off.

"I've always been an advocate of education and my own experience taking my Executive MBA degree at AIM strengthened this. I’m a firm believer of constantly upskilling yourself through education because the world is changing fast and the skills you have might no longer be relevant," said the entrepreneur. "Many had to pivot their businesses and this upcoming course will be valuable in empowering any business to get through this new normal."

The business course in question is titled “Transitioning to Digital & How to Get Started Online Program: Making Your Business Just a Few Clicks Away.” The course is worth P25,000 and will be taught by Stephanie B. Guerrero, a faculty member at AIM who earned her MBA from Harvard Business School.

Scheduled from December 2 to 11, the course is a timely lesson on adjusting to the digital world, particularly in digital marketing, which is now the lifeline for many online businesses.

This is not the first time Mananquil-Trillo has sponsored someone's education, whether it be a degree or short course. Her family has made a philanthropic habit of supporting their household staff's children and funding scholars at Ateneo.
