Just a few weeks ago, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) shared that he is not “the type to cling to power and to perks.” The PLDT chairman and CEO made it clear that he had plans to “relinquish” his post and the power that came with it.

And it appears he’s sticking by his word.

MVP just announced that he will be retiring next month and stepping down as CEO of PLDT, making way for his successor, PLDT’s chief revenue officer Al Panlilio, to take his place.

MVP will officially “pass the baton” to Panlilio next month, June, during PLDT’s next annual shareholders meeting. This is according to One News PH, which is powered by MVP’s MediaQuest Holdings.

MVP will remain PLDT’s chairman, but will hand over day-to-day operations and decision-making to Panlilio. Aside from his post as CRO and future CEO of PLDT, Panlilio is also the president of Smart Communications. Prior to this, he was senior vice president at Meralco for nine years.

He shares MVP’s passion for sports and sits as the president of the MVP Sports Foundation.
