Netflix's Squid Game Could Soon Be Worth $900 Million

Despite its criticism of capitalism, Squid Game is on its way to the bank. According to Bloomberg and Variety, Netflix’s global phenomenon will be worth $900 million before the year ends.
Netflix reportedly only paid $21.4 million for the hit series, and just one month after its release, the streamer allegedly projects that the show will deliver at least $891 million in “impact value.” As a streamer, Netflix does not earn revenue on sales per ticket. Instead, streamers earn revenues from subscriptions, and according to Bloomberg, Netflix’s impact value refers to the title’s “economic contribution to Netflix based on subscriber viewing.”

Bloomberg’s source is confidential as all streamers are notoriously tight-lipped about data and revenues. Netflix reveals only its viewer count for hit shows, and only at particular times during the year. However, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos has confirmed that Squid Game is the streamer’s biggest show in history.
It is curious though that the show, known for criticizing the world’s wealth gap, was bought for so little from the creators but is earning Netflix millions. But then again, it’s not so surprising after all if you’ve watched Squid Game till the end.
We just hope that the Squid Game creators are rolling in royalties too.
