The battle between telcos is neverending, and the winner is always different, depending on who you ask. But in the April latest report on the Philippine mobile telecommunications industry of Opensignal one Filipino telco has emerged as a clear winner.
Smart Communications Inc. won 11 out of 16 of the independent mobile network analytics company’s mobile experience categories, making it the “operator to beat in the Philippines.”
Smart was declared the winner in the following categories: Video Experience, Games Experience, Voice App Experience, Download Speed, 5G Games Experience, 5G Voice App Experience, 5G Download Speed Experience, 5G Upload Speed, 5G Availability, 5G Reach, and 4G Coverage Experience.
“Smart is the outright winner of both the Download Speed Experience and 5G Download Speed awards, with scores of 19.7 Mbps and 149.9 Mbps, respectively,” the report said. “In both categories, Smart wins by large margins. It commanded a lead of 4.9 Mbps (32.8 percent) over DITO for Download Speed Experience and wins 5G Download Speed with a lead of 38.8 Mbps (35 percent) over Globe.”
Meanwhile, Globe won in the 5G Video Experience, Excellent Consistent Quality, and Core Consistent Quality categories.
“Globe wins the Excellent Consistent Quality award with a 7.8 percentage points margin over second-placed Smart. In Core Consistent Quality, Globe beat Dito by 12.8 percentage points. Our measures of consistent quality quantify how often users’ experience on a network was sufficient to support common applications’ requirements,” the report said.
Newcomer Dito bagged the awards for Availability and Upload Speed Experience.
According to Opensignal, the report is a “definitive guide to understanding the true experience consumers receive on wireless networks.”
