If You Like Rare Whiskies, This is an Auction You Need to Check Out

Leading online rare whisky and spirits auction house Whisky Auctioneer is holding Part 2 of Richard Gooding’s extensive collection of very rare whiskies this month. The auction event dubbed The Perfect Collection features over 3,900 bottles owned by the former CEO of Pepsi. Part 1 of the auction was held a year ago in February 2020.
According to Whisky Auctioneers, The Perfect Collection is the culmination of one man’s enduring passion for Scotch whisky and his pursuit to own single malt whisky from every Scottish distillery, thus creating the “perfect” collection. It took Gooding two decades to amass his collection. He passed away in 2014.
“As the leading online rare whisky and spirits auction house, we encounter many great collections,” Whisky Auctioneers said in a statement. “However, this collection is unlike anything we have seen before and are likely to see again. Its sheer scale and rarity makes it one of the most significant discoveries in the whisky world.”
The second part of the collection has over 1,900 bottles of the rarest, most coveted and expensive single malts in existence But one bottle stands out: The Macallan 1926 Fine and Rare, which, in 2019, was considered the world’s most expensive bottle of whisky.
In 2018, a specially labelled Macallan 1926 Valerio Adami bottle was sold for over $1.1million (about P53.1 million), becoming the first online whisky auction to hit the million-dollar mark.
Macallan single malt whisky is actually considered a very good (and liquid) investment. Last year, a young Scotsman sold off his Macallan collection to pay for his new house. His father gave him a bottle every birthday since he was young. Years later, he cashed in on his liquid assets to buy his dream home.
The temptation to sample the whiskies is real, which could lead to a risk in being unable to experience a financial return on investment, but the experience is considered well worth it for many whisky aficionados.
The Perfect Collection auction is currently happening and will run until 7 p.m. (GMT) of February 22, 2021. Based in Perth, central Scotland, Whisky Auctioneer was established in 2013 and specializes in auctioning fine, old, rare, collectible as well as affordable whiskies. It has one of the most comprehensive websites available for the buying and selling of whisky globally.
