Every year since 2006, reputation measurement and management services firm Reputation Institute (RI) lists down the 100 most reputable companies in the world. US business magazine Forbes publishes the list.

This year, the rankings were based on a study done by RI from January to February 2019. The respondents were composed of over 230,000 individuals from 15 countries. It included over 140 companies that earn revenues in excess of $50 billion and has a brand familiarity of at least 40 percent of the general population.

What are the world’s most reputable companies?

The annual Global RepTrak100 is a good reference in looking for the most reputable companies to work for. In creating the list, Reputation Institute gauges the familiarity of the general public of each company to see how relevant they are, analyzes the way they present themselves through brand expression, and keeps track of the issues that drive the brand’s narrative.

To be included in the Global RepTrak 100 means the company has achieved an excellent reputation and makes an impact on the general public through what they stand for and what they sell. For the year 2019, here are the five most reputable companies in the world.

1 | Rolex

The Swiss luxury watchmaker is once again named the most reputable company in the world, now for the fourth year in a row.

RI said Rolex’s “history of timeless excellence” has successfully built assurance among the general public, giving it a higher brand relevance score this year of 8.6—2.9 points higher than the global average of 5.7 points.

Forbes noted how the campaign “Every Rolex Tells A Story” helped further propel the brand to the top ranks. Rolex tapped symbolic spokespeople for the project, whom its clients trust. Some of them are world-renowned marine biologist Sylvia Earle and professional tennis player Roger Federer.

2| Lego

Like Rolex, The Lego Group also maintained its second position on the most reputable companies list for the third year in a row.

In 2018, Lego released the first sustainable Lego elements. Through its Planet Promise campaign, the Danish toy company manufactured a new range of pieces made from plant-sourced polyethylene plastic.

“At the LEGO Group, we want to make a positive impact on the world around us, and are working hard to make great play products for children using sustainable materials,” said Tim Brooks, Vice President, Environmental Responsibility at the LEGO Group. “This first step is only the beginning of our ambitious commitment of making all LEGO bricks using sustainable materials.”

3| Disney

@disney: "And the 26 Oscars go to... Walt Disney! To this day, Walt holds the record for most Academy Award wins and nominations for an individual."

Jumping two places from the previous year’s rankings, The Walt Disney Company is the third most reputable company this year.

Disney had an eventful 2018. In December that year, Disney said they made $7 billion in global box office—only the second time any studio hit the $7 billion mark. (The first record was also Disney in 2016 when they grossed $7.6 billion globally)

This year, the American diversified multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate also has a lot in store for its viewers. Following the release of Captain Marvel in March, Disney’s other films scheduled this year are Dumbo (March), Penguins (April), Avengers: Endgame (April), Aladdin (May), Toy Story 4 (June), The Lion King (July), Artemis Fowl (August), Frozen 2 (November), and Star Wars: Episode IX (December).

Coming in at fourth place is the Adidas Group. The German shoes, clothing, and accessories design company jumped three ranks from the most reputable companies list in the previous year.

In late 2018, the company tapped social media mogul and the world’s youngest billionaire Kylie Jenner to be its brand ambassador. Jenner sported the spring/summer 2019 range of the Falcon sneaker on multiple posts on her Instagram account.

In early 2019, Jenner’s sister Kendall also came on board and modeled the brand’s Sleek footwear and Bellista apparel.

5| Microsoft

Microsoft Corporation entered the top 5 in this year’s list, jumping five places from the previous year’s rankings. “While the tech industry has been negatively portrayed in the media across 2018, Microsoft has bucked the trend and is now #5 in the global rankings,” the RI said in its report.

Amid the challenges that plagued the tech industry early this year, Microsoft’s transparency about  bugs and updates heped them retain public trust.

Microsoft’s conscious efforts to improve and develop its product portfolio while keeping its price points at a competitive range also helped spur the company’s overall quality and reputation, RI said.
