One Philippine Firm Made it to Forbes' List of World's ‘Best Regarded Companies’

Forbes ranked the Philippine conglomerate as the 172nd best-regarded company in the world.

SM Investments Corp. landed on the 172nd spot on Forbes’ The World's Best Regarded Companies 2019 list. The Sy-led conglomerate is the only Philippine company to do so, beating companies like Mitsubishi Motors (#187), Berkshire Hathaway (#203), Adobe (#220), and American Express (#243) in rankings.

The companies were chosen from Forbes’ Global 2000 list of 2019, which features the world’s largest public companies. According to Forbes, the companies were narrowed down to 250 businesses based on “trustworthiness, social conduct, the strength of their products and services, and how they fare as employers.”

With the help of Statista, Forbes surveyed 15,000 respondents from more than 50 countries to determine the best-regarded businesses in the world.

Only six Philippine companies made it to the Global 2000 list of 2019 back in May: BDO Unibank (#1018), SM Investments (#1092), Top Frontier Investment Holdings (#1196), Ayala (#1236), Metropolitan Bank & Trust (#1639), and JG Summit Holdings (#1720).

The United States has the most businesses on the World’s Best Regarded Companies 2019, followed by Japan, China, and India. Although only one Philippine company made it to the list, Asia dominated the list with more than half of the companies hailing from the continent.

Visa, Ferrari, Infosys, Netflix, and PayPal topped the Forbes list as the top five best regarded companies in the world.
