Steven Tan Appointed New President of SM Supermalls
Former SM Supermalls chief operating officer Steven Tan has just been appointed the new president of Shopping Center Management Corporation (SCMC), as announced by SM Prime Holdings in a public disclosure on the stock exchange.
Tan is now tasked with “continuing SM’s legacy” through the mall management unit of SM Prime Holdings, Inc.
“His new position underscores the rapid and dynamic changes in the Filipino consumer behavior. Mr. Tan’s focus on building meaningful shopping experiences consistently throughout his career prepares him for this next phase,” SM Prime president Jeffrey C. Lim said in the disclosure.
In his time with SM, Tan led the launch of SM Prime’s premium malls such as SM Mall of Asia in 2006 and SM Aura Premier in 2013.
Tan graduated from the Paris School of Management with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and went on to work in the hospitality industry in Taipei, Taiwan, and Shanghai, China.
SM began in 1958 as a humble mall called Shoemart. Henry Sy Sr.’s brainchild has since expanded to become SM Supermalls with 74 malls across the Philippines and seven malls in China, cementing its place as a regional player as one of the leading mall operators in Southeast Asia.
