Bank of the Philippines is slated to have its twenty-year veteran Maria Cristina "Ginbee" Go at its helm as she replaces Jose Teodoro "TG" Limcaoco starting April 26, 2027.
The outgoing president and CEO had been at the forefront of the lender's digital transformation, its integration with Robinsons Bank, expanding small micro-enterprises and microfinance segments, and boosting BPI's lending portfolios.
Go will be bringing with her an extensive background within the BPI, where she served as executive vice president and head of consumer banking and the president of BPI Family Savings Bank.
"I believe that leadership transitions provide us with rare opportunities to both look at what has come before while also embracing the things that have yet to come. As a company with a history of reinvention and longevity, we have always encouraged transitions as a central principle of building enduring institutions. Constant renewal has always enabled us to be relevant to the stakeholders that we serve,” BPI Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said in a statement.
“TG has brought BPI to tremendous new heights as CEO over the past five years, and we are grateful for the strong platform that we will now be building upon. Under his leadership, BPI saw a period of significant transformation across digital, financial inclusivity, and sustainability," he added, referring to the outgoing CEO.
Commenting on the Board of Directors' approval of the succession plan, Zobel de Ayala noted that he expects new prospects amidst some volatility in the global and domestic economic environment as the "Filipino consumer sector grows, becomes more sophisticated, and seeks a trusted partner in achieving financial stability and success."
While the board has greenlit the succession plan, the April 26 start is still subject to "necessary approvals."
Previously, Limcauco championed the modernization of the local lender's tech infrastructure and spearheaded beefing up its cybersecurity and digital capabilities.
Earlier this year, the outgoing CEO had been named the Best Bank CEO in the Philippines by strategic intelligence, research, and consulting platform the Asian Banker.
A Wealth of Experience
Before running Consumer Banking, Go was the president of BPI Family Savings Bank, where the bank saw her tenure as one that led the institution's transformation and its integration into BPI proper.
Much like Limcaoco, Go had put in the effort to modernize the consumer franchise, widen the retail footprint, and deepen customer relationships. Under her watch as head of Consumer Banking, BPI credits her with having bolstered its market position across key products and moved into AI-enabled capabilities.
The tenured bank executive also held leadership positions at Citibank, Ayala Land, and Procter & Gamble, which adds consumer-facing perspectives into the mix. Go is also a certified public accountant who got her accounting degree at the University of the Philippines Diliman. She had also topped the 1991 CPA Licensure Exams and holds an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
Currently, she also sits on the boards of Ayala Foundation, TransUnion Philippines, BPI Direct BanKo, and BPI MS Insurance Corporation.
