Jeff Bezos Is Going to Space. Over 54,000 People Are Petitioning to Not Let Him Come Back to Earth
You don’t attain as much power as Jeff Bezos without gaining some enemies and critics along the way.
Earlier this month, Jeff Bezos announced his plan to board the New Shepard, an upcoming space shuttle developed by his commercial space exploration company Blue Origin. Jeff will be joined by his brother, Mark Bezos, on the New Shepard’s first-ever human flight on July 20.
Jeff’s haters have one thing to say about that: don’t come back.
Over 35,000 people have signed a Change.org. petition titled “Do not allow Jeff Bezos to return to Earth,” which is currently one of the top signed petitions on Change.org. Its description reads simply: “Billionaires should not exist...on earth, or in space, but should they decide the latter they should stay there.”
Meanwhile, 19,000 people signed a second petition titled, “Petition To Not Allow Jeff Bezos Re-Entry To Earth.” This one is a little more… descriptive, saying that “Jeff Bezos is actually Lex Luthor, disguised as the supposed owner of a super successful online retail store. However, he’s actually an evil overlord hellbent on global domination.”
Well, there’s certainly no hiding the animosity there.
Bezos is currently the world’s richest man with a wealth that could compete with a small nation. As of June 6, he’s worth a whopping $200 billion, about the same amount as the entire GDP of Greece or New Zealand.
He isn’t alone in the growing hostility against the obscenely rich. His longtime rival and the world’s second richest man, Elon Musk, has been receiving his own fair share of criticism for supposedly manipulating the crypto market. Netizens have grown so upset with him that a new crypto has been coined titled “StopElon,” not to mention that the hacktivist organization Anonymous is setting its sights on hacking Musk’s assets.
