Don't Cancel Your Food Orders Because You May Get Jailed for 6 Years

A new bill details hefty penalties for canceled orders.

Think twice about canceling your Grab Food delivery order once this bill becomes law.

AKO Bicol Party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin has filed House Bill 6958, or the Food and Grocery Delivery Services Act, which seeks to punish those who cancel their food delivery orders that were already paid for by the delivery service providers.

Violators will be fined up to P100,000 and be imprisoned for at least six years. On top of this, they must also reimburse the food or service paid in advance by the riders.

"This covers instances wherein customers order food and/or grocery items for the purpose of pranking or those who have no genuine intention of availing of the service which causes damage and undue duress to the Delivery Riders and their corresponding services," the bill reads.

Berating a rider can land you in jail for six months.

Under House Bill 6958, customers who shame, embarrass, demean, or humiliate delivery riders on any platform will face six months of imprisonment.

The bill also calls for customers to submit proof of identity, proof of residence, or proof of billing. To validate identity, customers must appear on video calls with the riders.

You are still allowed to cancel orders if it meets one of these conditions.

Under the proposed law, customers may still cancel the delivery service if it falls under one of three conditions:

1| The customer uses a credit card and payment will still be credited to the delivery service providers;


2| The customer remits or reimburses the delivery service providers; and

3| The delivery of the order was delayed for at least one hour.
