Internet Rallies Behind McCann Worldgroup
At this point, the whole drama between the Department of Tourism and McCann Worldgroup Philippines has become popcorn entertainment. The former published a very public, very uppercase-lettered breakup statement—which the latter had no clue about until the Internet went wild. Since then, McCann has issued their own statement.
We're munching on popcorn as we watch this chaos play things out, but we still have a lot of unanswered questions: Who's to blame? Who approved the ad? Why can't we bust out good tourism material (in the past few years, anyway)? Who typed DOT's statement and who told that person to use all caps?
McCann Worldgroup has reacted quite civilly to the controversy, but they've been on the receiving end of criticism.
Still, local ad agencies are throwing their support behind McCann via social media. 4AS Philippines (the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies Philippines) posted this on their Facebook page with the hashtag #wegotyourback:
