A Luxury Hotel in Outer Space Could Open by 2024
We're living in the modern world right now. Though flying cars aren't exactly commercially available and eternal youth hasn't been figured out, we live in the age where the fastest vaccine of all time was developed and Back to the Future-style self-lacing shoes exist.
Now, we can add a luxury space hotel to that cool list of things that happened in our lifetime. Like something out of a sci-fi flick, former NASA chief are reportedly planning to build a hotel in space. And, that's not even the most mind-boggling part of it all since it could open as soon as 2024.
A Houston-based company called Axiom Space, which was co-founded by former International Space Station (ISS) manager Michael Suffredini, has just announced its plans to create a commercial space station. Dubbed AxStation, the hotel will be an out-of-this world (forgive us) experience for space tourists.
The company has noted French interior designer Phillipe Starck on board to create the aesthetic of the site. There will be cabins, panoramic views, and even details like color-changing LEDs. Aside from the hotel, a laboratory and manufacturing facility will also be constructed.
"Twenty years after astronauts first began to live and work aboard the ISS, Axiom offers you the ability to traverse the sublime reach of space and fulfill personal goals of a philosophical, philanthropic, scientific or commercial nature—and help open a new chapter in human history," the company told the Times.
According to reports, a ticket with Elon Musk's SpaceX costs $55 million. Better start saving up now.
