ABS-CBN Reporter Bernadette Sembrano: 'I was told that I was retrenched'
Bernadette Sembrano has been retrenched as a field reporter for ABS-CBN.
The 44-year-old broadcast journalist announced this in a video she posted on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon, August 25.
On August 31, thousands of workers will be retrenched from ABS-CBN.
After the House of Representatives denied the network a congressional franchise on July 10, the company was forced to lay off thousands of its employees.
Korina Sanchez and Ces Drilon are among the well-known Kapamilya news personalities who were let go by ABS-CBN last month.
And this Tuesday, Bernadette said that she has also been fired as a field reporter for the “Lingkod Kapamilya” segment of ABS-CBN primetime newscast TV Patrol.
Despite this, Bernadette will remain as the co-anchor of TV Patrol on weekdays.
In a video posted by Bernadette on her Facebook page, she recounted that she had lunch this Tuesday when she received "pretty not so good news."
Coincidentally, that morning was also good for her as she shared: "We are awaiting our FILSCAP membership."
FILSCAP is the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
"Grupo siya ng mga Filipino composers and songwriters," the broadcaster explained.
"Another big surprise, right?" smiling he said.
Bernadette recently ventured into songwriting. She is the lyricist of “Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin,” the theme song of the new Kapamilya teleserye with the same title that stars Jodi Sta. Maria, Iza Calzado, Sam Milby, and Maricel Soriano.
The Bad News
Bernadette shared that she was called by her boss at ABS-CBN.
"By noontime, I got a call from my superior, sa aking trabaho as a reporter for ABS-CBN. Yung mga ginagawa nating field work for Lingkod Kapamilya, iyon yung aking field work na assignment. That’s my staff work. And I was told that I was retrenched."
The Kapamilya broadcaster paused for a moment before continuing.
"Masakit din," she said, adding that she expected to lose her job at ABS-CBN like other employees.
“But this isn’t the first time that this happened to me. That I was enjoying the morning, and then pagdating ng hapon, medyo not so good news. ”
Lingkod Kapamilya is the public service segment on TV Patrol, which features various assistance from ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. to those in need.
The reporter remains grateful despite the outcome and thanked ABS-CBN for everything she learned as a field reporter.
“Thank you for my many years as a field reporter. I am a changed person because of my field work. I know that every moment I had as a field reporter, wala akong inaksayang panahon."
In addition, Bernadette has another thank you: "I am also grateful because, officially, I am a songwriter."
The important thing, according to Bernadette, is to stay optimistic and to make it a habit to be thankful for all the blessings you receive.
Bernadette was first known on GMA-7. She is the original host of the Kapuso public-service program Wish Ko Lang!
In 2004 when Bernadette moved to ABS-CBN, she hosted the morning shows Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas and Umagang Kay Ganda.
Bernadette also served as a reporter for the investigative documentary program The Correspondents, and hosted the weekly health program Salamat Dok.
Later, Bernadette also had regular radio programs on DZMM.
