Child Opens Christmas Card with Unexpected Plea for Help

Instead of a greeting, this Christmas card contained a plea for help.

What would you do if you opened a Christmas card, but instead of reading a relative’s generic greeting, you find a haunting message from alleged prisoners from China?

That’s exactly that happened when six-year-old girl from the U.K. opened a Christmas card. The haunting message written on the card read, “We are foreign prisoners in Shanghai Qingpu Prison China. Forced to work against our will. Please help us and notify human rights organization,” according to a report by Rappler.

The child's father, Ben Widdicombe, thought the message was a prank. "On reflection, we realized it was actually potentially quite a serious thing, so I felt very shocked," said Widdicombe as reported by Rappler

Tesco, which ordered the Christmas cards, immediately halted the production at the Chinese factories and condemned the use of prison labor. “We abhor the use of prison labor ad would never allow it in our supply chain,” read Tesco’s statement.
