The video ignited criticism from netizens on Twitter, calling the bold act disrespectful to the actual vice president, Leni Robredo.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that Marcos was defeated in the 2016 vice presidential race by Camarines Sur representative Leni Robredo. So why did this government official proclaim Marcos as the false VP?
Marcos and his supporters have long contested Robredo’s win a number of times, demanding a recount to prove the alleged vote manipulation. The Supreme Court eventually settled the matter, confirming through the Presidential Electoral Tribunal that Robredo’s lead over Marcos actually widened by 15,000 votes after the recount.
Who is the government official who publicly called Marcos the VP?
The man in the viral video happens to be Jeff Ortega, the director of the Department of Tourism – Ilocos Region. Aside from being a government official, Ortega is an entrepreneur involved in a number of business ventures in La Union, such as La Union Surf School.
He is also the boyfriend of GMA star Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
