Duterte Sorry For Saying 'Hurting Words' to Ayalas, MVP
In May 4’s weekly ECQ address, President Rodrigo Duterte took a few minutes out of his press conference to deliver an unexpected apology to business tycoons he's had “problems” with in the past, singling out the Ayalas and Manny Pangilinan.
“Naubos na yung pagiging suplado ko, the COVID humbled me,” said Duterte.
Since the start of quarantine, big businesses have been offering their support to the public through PPE donations, alcohol production, food distribution, and more.
“Yung mga big business, meron tayong mga problema noon, which is really part of governance. But if we can just forget it for the moment, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us provide the necessities of the moment,” said the president.
“Yung mga masakit kong salita to the Ayalas and si Pangilinan, I apologize for the hurting words. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me because if you do not, I will undercut you—I will go direct to God,” joked Duterte.
Pangilinan was quick to respond on his social media account, accepting the president’s apology.
Brothers Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Fernando Zobel de Ayala have also responded, releasing a joint statement on the matter.
