A man later identified as a security guard took a doctor hostage early morning Wednesday, July 1, at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Multiple news reports said the man went to the hospital for treatment after a motorcyle accident.

At around 5 a.m., he reportedly then grabbed a syringe and pointed it at the neck of a doctor who was attending to some patients in the emergency room.

A report by the Criminal Investigation and Detction Unit of the Quezon City Police District said the suspect did not make any demands or complaints.

Police and security personnel negotiated with the man, who eventually let hostage go and put the syringe down.

In an interview, QCPD CIDU chief Police Major Elmer Monsalve said they intend to file grave coercion, grave threat, and alarm and scandal complaints against the suspect.

EAMC officials said the hostage was not hurt during the incident.
