In an interview with Christian Esguerra on ABS-CBN News Channel’s Matters of Fact, Isabela Governor Rodito Albano III lamented the lack of media covering Isabela and Cagayan in the early days following Typhoon Ulysses on November 11.

The ANC anchor questioned the governor as to why information regarding the devastating floods in Isabela took a few days to reach other parts of the country. Due to the delay, most national media networks relied on the provincial and local governments for information, images, and videos.

The governor explained that they only released images to the media on Saturday as the typhoon had cut off the province from the rest of the country due to floods, brownouts, and highway blockage.

“How can we give you such information? Sana kung mayroon kayong mga crews dito. Yung mga crews nga ng ibang station pinalipad ko pa para tignan ang damage dito sa Isabela and Cagayan,” lamented the governor.

The comment caught the attention of the ANC anchor, who expertly noted that ABS-CBN’s regional stations were shut down after ABS-CBN’s franchise was rejected. The regional stations were among the top sources of information in the provinces, such as the province of Isabela, which was serviced by TV Patrol Cagayan Valley program.

Eh, hindi binigay yung franchise. So naisara ang regional station. So papano icocover mga nangyari dyan. Alam mo naman yun diba?” questioned Esguerra. “How could you forget that?”

The governor was visibly caught by surprise, and could only laugh in response.

He laughed for 10 seconds.

"Oo pero still, even yung crews na-overwhelm din yun I’m sure,” defended the governor, who carried on to explain that all the media crews were “overwhelmed” by the situation.

The governor’s brother, Isabela 1st district Representative Antonio Albano had, in fact, voted in favor of killing ABS-CBN’s franchise. He also served as the vice-chairman of the committee that deliberated over ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
