Man Arrested for 'Fake Italian Jab'

A 50-year-old Italian man attempted to pull as fast one on healthcare professionals when he used a fake silicone arm to try and circumvent the Italian city of Biella’s vaccine program. The man wanted to obtain a Green Pass without having to inject the coronavirus vaccine inside his body.

A report in the Facebook page of Albert Cirio, an Italian politician, things didn’t turn out quite as expected for the man, who was unidentified in news media. Although the silicone application was very similar to real skin, the color and perception to the touch made the healthcare worker involved in the vaccination suspicious. The worker then asked the person to show their entire arm.

“I felt offended as a professional,” the healthcare worker, identified as Filippa Bua told La Repubblica newspaper. “The color of the arm made me suspicious and so I asked the man to uncover the rest of his left arm. It was well made but it wasn’t the same color.”

Once discovered, the man tried to persuade the operator to turn a blind eye. Instead, he was reported to the Carabinieri, the Italian law enforcement agency. The case will also be referred to the Prosecutor's Office.

While the incident borders on the ridiculous, we’re talking about a gesture of enormous gravity, unacceptable in the face of the sacrifice that the pandemic is making our entire community pay in terms of human lives and social and economic costs.

“The promptness and skill of the operator have foiled the plans of this subject who will now answer for justice,” Cirio said. “Our thanks, on the other hand, go to all the health workers who have been continuously involved in our vaccination campaign for months without ever lowering their attention and professionalism, starting precisely with those who acted promptly last night in Biella.

This December, an even more stringent “super green pass,” will be issued to those who have already been vaccinated or recently recovered from COVID.
