Presidential candidate and Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan continued their campaign in Palawan and Mindoro this week.

Supporters gathered at the Baywalk Park in Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday, April 6, where she held the "PAGLAEM: Palawan People's Rally!"

"Palawan is the last ecological frontier," she said. "Thirty percent of the country's mangroves are here, 40 percent of coral reefs are here, 50 percent of forests are here," Robredo said during her speech. "Kapag kami po ni Senator Kiko ang inyong tinulungan, ang priority po natin dito talagang proteksyon ng kalikasan."

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (U.N.E.S.C.O.), Palawan island is one of more than 1,700 islands under the Palawan Biosphere Reserve. The reserve also houses 105 out of the 475 threatened species in the country. The province also has the largest remaining mangrove cover in the Philippines spread across 44,000 hectares.

One of the key talking points of the Robredo-Pangilinan has also been agricultural reform. But she reminded her supporters that they'd be needing help from them to achieve this goal. "Mangyayari lang po ang lahat ng pangarap natin sa bayan natin 'pag tayo ay magtutulung-tulungan," she adds.

Among the five provinces in MIMAROPA, Palawan happens to have the highest number of registered voters for the May 9 polls at just over 746,000 individuals.

Robredo and Pangilinan also visited San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and had a dialogue with the Gem-Ver fishermen and local officials.

In June 2019, the 14-ton fishing boat FB Gem-Ver 1 was rammed by a Chinese vessel in Recto Bank and left 22 fishermen stranded at sea.

At the time, the Office of the Vice President turned over P50,000 in cash assistance from its Angat Buhay program. This anti-poverty initiative, which gets its resources primarily from Robredo's office and the private sector, was established to assist various sectors in the country.

On Thursday, April 7, Robredo visited the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command. She was welcomed by Deputy BGen. Sharon Gernale and was given the "sideboys honors." Here, Robredo and representatives from the AFP discussed the situation at the West Philippine Sea and in Palawan.

On Friday, April 8, Robredo's campaign is expected to head to the University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City for "The Education President: Interviews with Presidential Aspirants on Philippine Education," as well as for her campaign rallies in Bani and Villasis.
