President Marcos and the Ayalas Lead Inauguration of the Biggest Wind Farm in the Country
On Friday, May 19, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of a 160-megawatt wind farm in Ilocos Norte. The said farm would be the largest in the Philippines once completed, the Presidential Communications Office confirms.
With construction starting in 2021, the Pagudpud Wind Project will cover the areas of Balaoi and Caunayan, and will be operational by the end of the year. This P11.4-billion project will be funded by the Ayala Group's energy subsidiary ACEN Corporation, formerly known as AC Corp.
Among those who joined the president included Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, Ayala Corp. Chair Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Ayala Land Adviser Fernando Zobel de Ayala, and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos.

During his speech, President Marcos said that the government is scrutinizing all technologies available for better energy security in the near future. The Marcos administration has been keen on strengthening the country's renewable energy resources since the president came into office last year.
Marcos himself has been adamant that the country has the potential to become a major wind power producer. It was also in April 2023 that Marcos issued an executive order to speed up the issuance of permits for offshore wind power projects.
In Republic Act No. 9513, or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the government is tasked with exploring and developing such resources, encompassing wind, solar, wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, and ocean.
