NTC Orders Shutdown of ABS-CBN's Sky Cable Direct and TV Plus Programs
The National Telecommunications Commission has just issued a cease and desist order (CDO) to Sky Cable Corporation, the telecommunications subsidiary of ABS-CBN Corporation. Sky Cable is now being ordered to stop its direct broadcast satellite service (DBS).
This is just one of NTC's two CDOs issued to ABS-CBN Corp. today. The second CDO ordered the shutdown of ABS-CBN's digital TV transmission, affecting TVPlus channels Cine MO!, Yey!, TeleRadyo, and its pay-per-view channel KBO.
NTC is now giving Sky Cable ten days to prove why its radio frequencies should not be recalled due to its lack of congressional franchise.
Sky Cable services over 1.5 million subscribers around the country, many of which also avail of the company’s broadband internet services.
As a result of the CDO, NTC is also demanding Sky Cable to refund its customer prepaid loads, deposits on subscriber equipment, and advance payments of postpaid subscribers.
ABS-CBN shut down on May 4 following its highly publicized franchise expiration.
