The Philippine Scout Rangers, the Army’s crack regiment, won silver and bested 138 teams from the world’s most formidable military units at the Exercise Cambrian Patrol, reputed as the world’s most difficult patrolling exercise. Only Ireland’s Kilkenny army unit bested the Philippine Scout Rangers, bagging the gold award.

The Cambrian Patrol is an annual international military exercise held in the harsh slopes of the Cambrian Mountains in Wales, United Kingdom. It is annually organized by the British Army. The event pushes soldiers to their limits, testing their fitness and skills in patrolling and navigating through unforgiving terrains, all while providing mission-focused and scenario-based exercises. The 2019 Cambrian Patrol is the 60th anniversary edition of the event.

“For 51 sleepless hours, the Army’s eight-man team successfully accomplished its mission by performing various military operations along the rugged Cambrian Mountains of Mid-Wales, with loads of logistics and minimal food and water,” said Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala.

Army commander Lieutenant General Macairog Alberto, heaped praise on the elite forces. “The team we sent to the exercises saw the standards of other countries. They are inspired to reach the level of other countries. In fact, we've surpassed some of them with our team's stellar performance. We can be one of the best,” said Alberto.
