Pope's Instagram Account Liked Photo of a Brazilian Model, and the Vatican Is Investigating
Vatican officials have launched an investigation after Pope Francis’s official Instagram accout reportedly liked a photo of a Brazilian model.
The Catholic News Agency (CAN) said the pope’s verified account liked the photo of model Natalia Garibotto wearing skimpy clothing that looked like a school uniform. News agencies said the like was still visible last November 13 but was unliked the next day.
Although a team of people manages the pope’s social media accounts, a Vatican spokesperson has flatly denied that one of them made the double tap. “We can exclude that the ‘like’ came from the Holy See, and it has turned to Instagram for explanations,” the spokesperson told Britain’s the Guardian.
Capitalizing on the publicity, the 27-year-old Garibotto, who has 2.4 million followers on the photo-sharing app, has joked, “At least I am going to heaven.”
