Quezon City Requires Public to Wear Face Masks

Quezon City has begun distributing face masks to the public.

Mayor Joy Belmonte made the announcement after issuing Executive Order No. 25 requiring a mandatory wearing of facemasks within the city to prevent the spreading of the COVID-19 virus. 

Belmonte required her constituents to wear any form of covering for the nose and mouth, including medical masks, industrial masks, earloop masks, do-it-yourself masks, cloth masks, improved masks, face shields, and the like. 

It will be the enforcers themselves, led by the Quezon City Police District in coordination with the barangay officials, who will distribute these facemasks for the public to be able to comply with the order.  

As of Monday, Quezon City already has 583 confirmed COVID-19 cases, leading to 29 barangays being placed under extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ). 

Violators of the said order will be penalized with a fine of up to ?50,000 and even imprisonment of up to six months, based on Sec. 9 (c) of Republic Act No. 11332. 

The order is in place until the national government lifts the Luzon-wide community quarantine.
