Senate president Tito Sotto, notorious for making bold statements, recently compared Pride Month with the Seven Deadly Sins.

“Pride is still one of the seven deadly sins,” said Sotto, a former comedian, while objecting to the memo issued by the Department of Education calling for the implementation and inclusion in the school calendar the observance and celebration of LGBT Pride every month of June.

Pride Month is not the only topic Sotto has taken issue with. In 2016, the senator got into hot water while interviewing a woman on his noontime show: “Kababae mong tao pa-shot-shot ka!” (“You’re a woman and you keep drinking shots!”).

Sotto has also voiced his objections to the SOGIE bill, while taking note of the LGBT community’s lengthy name. "Why the lengthy letters? Why not just 'Homo sapiens?' We are all the same," said Sotto.

In June, Sotto was in the news for remarking Chinese vessels could fish in Philippine waters because the fish could have come from China.
