TV Patrol Slays on YouTube After ABS-CBN Shutdown

Two days after the government forced ABS-CBN to shut down, the network’s beloved news program TV Patrol returned online, and it slayed with eight million views on YouTube in just one night.

During the livestream of the news program on YouTube, the number of people watching at the same time peaked at 218,000. But the online viewership is just a fraction of the network's audiences on television, which had tens of millions of viewers during primetime. 

Filipinos Celebrate the Return of TV Patrol

The network may have ceased broadcasting on the airwaves, but its various online platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and iWant experienced surges in viewership. On YouTube, ABS-CBN News gained 100,000 new followers after the network’s shutdown.

On Twitter and Facebook, patrons of the news program expressed their joy at the return of TV Patrol. The hashtag #TV Patrol became the number one trending topic on Twitter on May 7.
