YouTube Confirms: ABS-CBN Channels Were Hacked
ABS-CBN’s YouTube channels are now back online after it was rendered inaccessible since this morning.
In an email to Esquire Philippines, YouTube has also confirmed that the affected ABS-CBN channels were in fact hacked on November 2, 2020.
“We take account security very seriously ad notify account owners when we detect suspicious activity. If an owner has reason to believe their account was compromised, they can notify our team to secure the account and regain control,” said YouTube in a statement.
The platform also urges all YouTubers to enable Google’s two-factor authentification to reduce the risk of hacking.
Upon learning of ABS-CBN’s situation, YouTube worked with the ABS-CBN team to retrieve their channels.
Earlier today, ABS-CBN’s news channels’ “terminated” accounts displayed a disclaimer stating that the network had violated YouTube’s Terms of Service.
