Let's Define the Filipino Fuccboi

Who would have thought that the word "fuccboi" was just the word we needed right now?

It’s a word that on the face of it looks utterly dashing and debonaire; that teases, and plays hard to get with its spelling, that makes you wonder if you’re really pronouncing it right—like how some feel about that designer watch they may have enough money to buy but not enough panache and street cred to pronounce.

But hang on. Let’s first get under the same sheet when it comes to what fuccboi actually means. Urban dictionaries and social media, the witnesses to our evolving lexicon, define fuccboi as: “A philandering man whose sole goal is to have sex with as many women as he can without committing to any of them.”

Another definition: “Some have described a fuccboi as an unpleasant and rude man, one who denigrates women whenever he can.”

As one article rejoiced, “Before the existence of the term, there were no derogatory words to describe men who cheat.” Cheating was taken as a sign of phallic prowess and gave rise to a male version of penis envy.

What about men who vilified women, often using their sexuality and/or body to castigate or dish out backhanded compliments to women? It was par for the course, it was locker room talk where boys were just being boys.

Finally a word that calls out a man’s shitty deplorable behavior for what it is: shitty, deplorable and therefore unacceptable.

Call them out for being misogynists? Yes, but it doesn’t have that “you’re being insulted and you may not be smart or savvy enough to know it” wah-pow of “fuccboi.”

Finally a word that calls out a man’s shitty deplorable behavior for what it is: shitty, deplorable and therefore unacceptable. And just to show you the application of this word, think about those days in November when our legislators thought it part of our civic duty to repulse the nation through their language and their behavior.

During that Congressional hearing on the alleged drug dealing that involved a lady senator and her driver/lover, the laughter and the jeering drowned out all but the heavy breathing of the fuccbois in the room. “When did you climax?” one panted.

“What was the peak or highest point and signal that you two reached?” another grunted.

Ang hilig mo naman sumalat,” another groaned.

Their, uhm, pointed questions were positioned to be in “aid of legislation,” but it seemed more in aid of masturbation, as it turned Congress into a roadside kanto where boys were getting drunk over cheap beer and licking their fingers as they picked on oily innards. The Lower House showed just how much lower it could get as we watched it turn itself into the House of Representative Fuccbois.

We need to brace ourselves as more fuccbois are unleashed and encouraged by the Fuccboi-in-Chief himself. A hyperbole? Hardly. More harbinger as the loudest voices of political opposition continue to come from women.

The uprising of those words strip them of their fuccboi cloak to show what they really are: dirty old men fighting for their relevance and existence in a fast-paced world that continues to move forward and leave them behind.

And nothing makes a fuccboi show his teeth and want to whip out his penis more than an intelligent, self-made and self-sufficient woman. If in addition, she takes charge of what her body parts—brain, heart and vagina—need and isn’t afraid to go after it, it all but makes him want to run back into his cave.

Nothing is more threatening to a fuccboi than a strong fearless woman and the others who stand by her. It renders him obsolete. It exposes him as man whose manhood is rooted in and based on oppressing women and is thus afraid of words like “feminism” and “equality” in any form.
