Let's Look Back At All The Smart Things Politicians Said in 2017 (jk)

Remember when we could count on statesmen to deliver eloquent speeches—or, at the very least, articulate, logically sound sentences? This year was not the year for that, it seems, as politicians have shown some incredible leaps in logic and amusing brain farts. Here, in no particular order, are some of the most cringeworthy utterances from our best and brightest:
.
Well, as God-fearing citizens of this country, our police chief is God, but that doesn't mean we should dissolve the PNP. As Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, author of the Police On-Body Cam Act, said: “It is absolutely absurd to suggest that the fear of divine retribution in the afterlife would be more effective than body cameras in addressing police impunity and holding dirty cops accountable for their crimes during our life here on Earth.”

Mocha Uson was visibly flustered during the fake news hearing last October as Sen. Bam Aquino grilled her on the issue of fairness. This embarrassing episode is probably one of the reasons why Uson has decided to attend law school next year.

Alvarez’s response last March, when reporters asked him to confirm whether he was having an extramarital affair, earns the dubious distinction of being able to violate two (i.e., the third and seventh) of the Ten Commandments in one breath.

Upon being appointed presidential spokesperson, Roque threated the president's critics during an interview with Mocha Uson. Just seven days later, he changed tack and gave journalists pan de sal while encouraging the president’s supporters to do the same.

When Andanar visited London to meet with overseas Filipino workers, he called European Union officials critical of Duterte’s war on drugs “palaiyot,” meaning sex-crazed. "May contest ba sa kabastusan na di ko alam gais? Ano premyo?" asked one Twitter user.

Though Badoy is now an undersecretary for the PCOO, she was an assistant secretary at the Department of Social Welfare and Development when she posted this tirade on Facebook.
