In the middle of a pandemic, Paolo Duterte, representative of the First District of Davao City, together with Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco and ACT-CIS Representative Eric Yap filed House Bill (HB) No. 7031 on June 25 seeking to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport or NAIA to Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas.

The bill was filed as the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 33,069 on Thursday. On social media, netizens criticized the move, which was largely seen as tone-deaf and indicative of the government’s sorely misplaced priorities amid the pandemic.
