The New Adidas Kamanda Is 2018's Answer to the Samba

Put your Sambas away this summer: Adidas Originals is releasing a new soccer-inspired silhouette called the Kamanda. Drawing heavy influences from the UK-based Terrace movement of the '80s and '90s (a complicated subculture that we won't fully delve into here, except to say it was defined by the intersection of fight-ready football hooliganism and sporty designer clothing), the Kamanda offers a starting point for a few new silhouettes Adidas will be releasing throughout the year.

.

Separate from the increasingly omnipresent "dad shoe" craze, the Kamanda has a new and refreshing look to add to the conversation in 2018. The upper leans into the kind of soccer-friendly minimalism you'll recall from the classic Samba, but the sole goes in a completely different direction. Oversized and heavily textured, it makes for an interesting clash of styles in one shoe that still manages to feel balanced.

The Kamanda makes its debut on April 28 and will retail for $150. Mark your calendar and let us know your thoughts.
