Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang Is What You Want To Wear If You Want To Be Cool

If you've been wondering what happened to Alexander Wang after he peaced out from Balenciaga a couple of years ago, let's just say that he has succesfully continued his life as a Cool Person. Divorced from the big-name luxury house, the American designer hasn't missed a beat, creating deconstructed athletic-influenced clothing for cool people under his own namesake label.
Also, he's been bringing this off-duty-model look to a wider audience through an alliance with Adidas Originals. In his third season with the global sports company's lifestyle brand, the designer employs his subversive approach to clothing, embellishing everything, from crewneck sweatshirt to graphic T-shirt to track jacket, with the collaboration's now-iconic upside-down trefoil logo.
.
He spins the idea of factory rejects into something you want. Imagine uneven printing and pixelated graphic—done on purpose!—on easy sportswear shapes. Highlights include the Bball Soccer shoe, which comes in chunky black or red, and has been seen on Justin Bieber, and also a translucent gray poncho, which is a cool garment unto itself.
You could say that the collection upends the idea of branding or is a commentary about taking power back from the knock-off market. Or maybe this is just a very good streetwear set imbued with Wang's magic touch. Either way, you will want to wear these every day.
.
One more (cool) thing: To launch the collection, the designer and the Wang Squad went on a road trip, from Los Angeles to Palm Springs (Coachella), last month. On the bus were models Binx Walton, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Lexi Boling, Issa Lish, and Cat McNeil and, more important, pieces from the new collection, which—even more important—were bartered along the way for supplies!
