Balenciaga's New Slides Take Inspiration From Your Lolo's Slippers

Under Demna Gvasalia's direction, Balenciaga has become known for its clever references to consumer culture—with a focus on the mundane: DHL logo-emblazoned tees, Ikea-inspired shopping bags, and even Crocs. Think of it as extreme yet luxurious normcore.
In its latest quest to make the boring exciting and ugly beautiful, the label has released a lolo-esque pair of slides. You know the ones: the chunky pleather slippers with a thick velcro strap. But, adapted to become luxurious, of course.
If you had a more stylish lolo, however, we're sure the slides will give you traumatic flashbacks of your grade school fit. The croc-embossed calfskin slip-on sandals look straight out of your '90s nightmares. The only thing missing is the grayish-white socks—paired with stone blue denim and an oversized tee, naturally.

At $495 (approximately P26,000), these definitely aren't the same ones you'd find in your local department store. For starters, it has the Balenciaga logo on the flap. It even has that weird detail of the extended footbed which makes the sandal look like a boat. (The accuracy!)
As with anything Balenciaga, you can expect this to be bought up quickly. Previous Balenciaga hits don't lie: The sock-inspired Balenciaga Speeds were the most hyped sneaker of 2017.
