The Man Behind Balenciaga’s Triple S Is Launching His Own Sneaker

And yes, it is very big and clunky and oversized

The Triple S: a swollen hoof that was more befitting a Slade grad show than a sneaker shop window. And it sold. So much so, that it's often considered patient zero of the whole ugly trainer pandemic. Without the Triple S, there'd be no Fila Disruptor II Sneaker, no Eytys Jet Turbo, no Acne Studios Manhattan.

It's not going anywhere anytime soon, either. David Tourniaire-Beauciel, the designer behind Balenciaga’s runaway success, is branching out on his own with Shoes 53045 (yes calculator savants will have noticed that the numbers spell 'shoes' when upside down).

With a thick, platform bubble sole, Tourniaire-Beauciel is still very much in support of Balenciaga's chubby popular kid, and focus remains on comfort. "Before, there was this French proverb saying you need to suffer to be beautiful; Now, it’s over, we want to be comfortable," he told Business of Fashion.  Those unwilling to spend the best part of a month's rent on something undeniably trend-led can take sweet relief, too: Shoes 53045 are expected to be around half the price of most luxury kicks on the market.
