Amidst the current trend of maximalism in fashion, it's hard to find a more devoted disciple than Jared Leto. On any given day the actor and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman is a whimsical explosion of color, pattern, and texture. He often looks as though he's wearing three outfits at once. And yet, he absolutely pulls it off.

Perhaps it's because he's a movie star with a highly successful side gig as a rock star (and an even more successful gig as a tech investor), so he's allowed a bit more sartorial leeway. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that Leto has a keen eye for pulling some seriously bold looks—very often the creations of his best pal and sartorial partner in crime, Gucci's Alessandro Michele—together. And here are 16 of his best looks to prove it.

You say the words "pink velour coat with yellow track pants" and think, that can't possibly work. And yet, here we are with visual evidence of an outfit that most street style obsessives would kill for.

.

Proof that a stylish coat can upgrade literally any outfit.

.

The red coat is the obvious big ticket fashion move, but the true style here is Leto's loafers and white socks.

.

For the mortal, the takeaway here is the faded denim jacket and the black sneakers with white laces.

This is when your outfit steers into territory best described as "ornate."

.

For the guy looking to expand his summer color palette, this Gucci pale green and pink is an excellent way to go.

.

A coat that Louis XIV would be proud of.

.

Even as king of the maximalists, Leto knows how pull off a pared down look.

.

For someone looking to add a little adventure to their wardrobe, but who doesn't want to drift into rock star territory, an embroidered satin souvenir jacket is the way to go. If, however, rock star is what you're looking for, then by all means, copy this entire look.

.

One of the greatest things about Leto's style is his ability to bring the past into the present. This is the modern version of the 19th century dandy.

.

A pretty straightforward DB tux that's given a jolt of personality thanks to the pink bowtie.

.

A red carnation definitely qualifies as creative black tie.

.

We've said it many times, and we'll say it again. You should have a black leather moto jacket in your wardrobe.

.

A satin shirt and white piping are how you transform business casual into rock star formal.

.

How do you get cooler than a black leather moto jacket? A black leather moto jacket with white lapels.

Keep this photo as a memento of the great Hedi Slimane era at Saint Laurent.
