In the midst of the 11.11 sales rush, streetwear source Commonwealth is using ‘singles’ day’ to do some good. Over the weekend, it announced that 100 percent of proceeds from purchases made through Commonwealth’s official website on November 11 will be donated to the Philippine Red Cross and its relief efforts toward the earthquake victims in Mindanao.

“We join our affected brothers and sisters in solidarity and call on our community to come together for the greater good,” the Facebook post read.

A series of strong earthquakes hit the Southern islands during the second half of October. A 6.6-magnitude tremor struck Cotabato on October 29, killing eight people. Two days later, the Central and Eastern parts of Mindanao experienced a 6.5-magnitude earthquake.

The Philippine Red Cross has actively been providing support for the earthquake victims, offering them temporary shelter and basic necessities. According to a report by Red Cross, more than 188,000 individuals were affected by the succession of calamities and over 420 Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to provide aid and assistance.

PRC chairman Richard Gordon called for continued financial support from the public: “Assistance is badly needed in the form of temporary shelters, food, medicine, clean water, tents, and essential household items… Other communities are in need of temporary medical facilities as some hospitals were damaged by the tremors. The fear is that the more than 2,600 aftershocks monitored by PHIVOLCS could have further weakened the structures’ foundation.”
