You're Gonna Want the Converse x Space Jam: A New Legacy Collection

It has been 25 years since Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes teamed up in the original Space Jam movie released in 1996. For its long-awaited reboot, this generation’s GOAT, Lebron James, gets his turn to play hero alongside the Warner Bros. cartoon characters we all grew up with.
Space Jam: A New Legacy releases this weekend in cinemas in the United States and on HBO Max and, to celebrate the eagerly anticipated premiere, Converse has something special for fans of all ages of the film. The Chuck 70 Hi, Chuck Taylor All Star, Pro Leather, and Run Star Motion are all given the Tune Squad treatment to make up the Converse x Space Jam: A New Legacy collection.

Lebron leaves his mark on the Chuck 70 in black/mantra orange with graphics such as an oversized jersey number six and his animated alter ego finger spinning a basketball on the right shoe’s lateral side while Tune Squad team graphics adorn that of the left. The familiar Looney Tunes color rings are satin-stitched on the ankle area complementing the vintage Chuck 70 patch. The four-time NBA Champ and MVP calls dibs on this pair with his signature found on the inside of the shoe’s tongue while we see more of the cartoon version of King James printed on the shoe’s lining. The Converse logo takes on the Space Jam typeface on the OrthoLite insoles.
Bugs, Lola, Daffy, Taz, and Marvin the Martian take over the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star. The classic black canvas hi-top is wrapped in a digitally inspired print along with images of the Tune Squad standouts. A pop of color comes in bright orange in the form of the Tune Squad basketball icon found on the sneaker’s tongue and on the classic Chuck Taylor ankle patch on the shoe’s medial side.

Lola Bunny gets her shine and one-ups all her other castmates with her own signature Pro Leather sneaker. The classic low-top makes use of a perforated leather upper with images of Bugs’ main squeeze on the ankle area of either shoe. The Star Chevron logo is made of fur and Lola’s name is embroidered on the heel. “Tune Squad” replaces the familiar Pro Leather branding on the shoe’s lateral side and pink adds color to the shoe’s lining and outsole.

The last shoe in the collection is definitely the funkiest one, by far. The Run Star Motion is a relatively new, edgier reimagination of the Chuck Taylor. Taking the shoe’s bold lines and exaggerated details a step further, the shoe’s Space Jam iteration makes the already attention-grabbing silhouette even more head-turning with a cosmic themed upper. The satin material is decked in “Server-verse” print which sits on an elevated, wavy platform. The bold design is coupled with CX technology in the midsole for impact absorption and comfort. The lugged rubber forefoot and heel offers excellent traction.
The Converse x Space Jam: A New Legacy collection is now available in limited quantities at select Converse stores in Powerplant Mall, Glorietta and Alabang Town Center, The Athlete’s Foot Glorietta and Ayala Cebu, and online at Converse LazMall.
