Here's What We Can All Learn From David Beckham's Royal Wedding Look

Or, how to gracefully almost-steal the show.

Credit where credit's due: The royal wedding was pretty great. Harry was every man that's ever bricked it at the altar. Meghan's dress was, we're told, very nice. And the British public weren't entirely miserable for once. 

So all in all, a good day—one made even better by attendance of HRH David Beckham in an outfit so impeccable, it almost stole the show from the newlyweds (almost).

In no time at all, Instagram was awash with the same just-putting-my-sunglasses-on-nice-and-slowly shot of the 43-year-old as he made a strong case for a look often relegated to stuffy home county weddings: the morning suit (by way of Dior Homme). 

Once deemed compulsory for daytime formal events, the morning suit is defined by a longer tailcoat, with a waistcoat and trousers—all made of the same material.

It's deeply traditional, but Becks being Becks he found a way to update it for 2018. Instead of opting for mustard yellow, eggshell blue, or some other showy color with regal overtones, he wore his key piece—the waistcoat—in a subtle dove gray, contrasting nicely with the monochrome of his suit and shirt. Then there is the fit: a modern, closer, and more flattering shape as opposed to the billowing legs of traditional morning suits.

Expect to see the look copied at weddings up and down the land this year, as high street brands are no about already scrabbling to get a modern morning suit in stock. It's a nice swing back to tradition and a change of pace from classic two-pieces that have been the go-to wedding outfit for men in recent years.
