10 Small Style Changes That Make a Big Difference

You don't need designer clothes to look like a million bucks. The most important thing is to know how to make the best of what you already have. Here are 10 tips—from finding your perfect fit to figuring out the colors that suit you—that'll help you up your style in a big way.

1 Find Your Fit

First and most important, figure out your size. That may seem like a no-brainer, but a medium in one brand is not the same as a medium in another. Take the time to hit up the dressing room to make sure you're grabbing the right fit for your body. You might even find that certain brands just don't work at all.

2 Find a Tailor

Find a new friend in your neighborhood who's focused on making you look your best. Connecting with a good tailor can elevate your look exponentially, whether it's through hemming your pants to the proper length or making sure your suit sits on you exactly the right way.

3 Grooming Matters

Your body is just as important in creating your personal style as the clothes you wear. Maybe you go for a more polished "fresh from the barber" look. Or maybe it's trucker vibes. Either way, it requires a certain amount of grooming (no matter how minimal) to really drive home what you're trying to achieve.

4 Embrace (the Right) Colors

It's easy to fall into the comfort of blacks, grays, and beiges. There's nothing wrong some earth tones but it's best to treat them as a jumping off point. Especially in the warmer months, bringing in a little color can turn the whole outfit around.

5 Mix and Match Styles

Some people buy the look right off the mannequin. Avoid that easy road and try combining a few different items on your own. Mastering the whole layering thing can take you far. (And it only requires the stuff you already have in your closet.)

6 Change With the Seasons

"Know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em" should be applied to your closet as well. There are definitely some year-round items in there, but clothes made from lighter or heavier fabrics should be folded up and stored away until they're seasonal again.

7 There’s No Need to Hop on Every Trend

Filling your wardrobe with the latest trends is a rookie mistake. While your fedoras and trucker hats are collecting dust on a shelf, you could be using that precious storage space for more functional everyday items.

8 Don’t Fear Accessories

A good belt or the perfect sunglasses for your face shape will instantly take your outfit to the next level. The right accessories can spruce up even the most basic look.

9 Think Beyond What You Wear

It's not just about clothes. Even the bag you're carrying or your headphones are sending a message about your style. The same goes for how you decorate your home. Make sure to choose accordingly.
