EXO's Baekhyun Will Release A Very Limited Nine-Piece Streetwear Collection
The influence of K-pop is everywhere. Not only is it present in music, it makes its way in what we see on our screens, what we put on our faces, and even what kind of mobile phone we use.
Part of its tremendous reach can be felt in how people dress. Just take a look at any its music videos on YouTube to understand why:
And one of the biggest K-pop acts today, EXO, are at the forefront with its members associated with luxury fashion houses. There is Sehun for Louis Vuitton and Kai for Gucci, for example.
Not to be outdone, Baekhyun, the vocal powerhouse of the band, has recently started designing for Privé by BBH, the special collection of the unisex streetwear label Privé from New York.
To be released this month is “Fearless,” his second drop in the line that explores, according to the label, “the idea of repetition and endlessness.” The nine-piece set hits all the touchpoints of the moment: the camp-collar shirts, the all-over logo (that repitition), the roomy fit, the '90s colors (which are the singer's favorites).
Consider, too, the following pieces, such as the Selca T-shirt, on Privé's website. “Selca,” a portmanteau of “self” and “camera,” is slang for selfie in South Korea, and this selca shows Baekhyun wearing a Privé T-shirt, so you will be wearing a Privé T-shirt by Baekhyun with a print of Baekhyun wearing a Privé T-shirt. Wrap your head around that.
Elsewhere, the white cotton-fleece Measure hoodie presents a clever message. The image of a yellow measuring tape placed on top of the word “FEARLESS” can be interpreted as having immeasurable courage.
It certainly takes bravery for an entertainer to, not just dip his toes into world of fashion, but really get into nitty-gritty of designing all aspects of a clothing line that is named after him. For Baekhyun, the gamble paid off with his first collection, launched in July, selling out at once—no doubt due to the power of his fans and lovers of streetwear.
Indeed, in this collaboration of fashion and super-popdom, the possibilities are endless.
Privé by BBH's second collection will be available on September 20 at priveny.com and in GR8 Tokyo and D-Mop Hong Kong.
