Fendi's Umbrella Hat May Protect You From Rain, But Not From Haters

A high-fashion solution to your wet weather conundrums.

It's tough to dress for the rainy season here in the Philippines. City streets flood easily, strong winds can render umbrellas useless, and the overall city congestion makes wet-and-messy inevitable. So assembling a wardrobe means always being on the lookout for reliable, well-made rain gear that also looks good.

Fendi thinks it's got you covered. The Italian luxury label has a high-fashion solution to your wet weather conundrums: a logo-printed umbrella hat. Which, sadly, is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds:

The hat is made with high-grade waterproof nylon, printed with a beige tone-on-tone print of the brand's famous F motif. It's also outfitted with a jacquard-woven elasticated insert. The hat made its runway debut last January, and was just recently made available for pre-order, as part of Fendi's fall/winter collection.

But even as we make the argument for its quality, its function, and it's provenance (the damn thing is made in Italy, so you know it's going to do its job well), it's hard to avoid how ridiculous it looks. You would almost prefer to get rained on than to be that guy with a high-fashion umbrella hat. And that's says nothing of its price: €280, or a little past P17,000. For an umbrella hat. Good luck with that.

You're better off with a raincoat—perhaps one from Danish brand RAINS—or a stylish windbreaker, or better yet, an actual umbrella. How much do you need that extra hand, anyway, that you would absolutely need this hat?

Of course, we're out here making suggestions, but if you happen to be a god-tier fashion lord who could possibly pull this off, go right ahead, man. The hat is now available for pre-order on Fendi's official site and on Luisaviaroma. Send us photos when you finally get to wear it while braving habagat rains.
